Socialism Spreads
Socialism spread throughout the Revolutions of 1848 by the people who wanted the wealth to be redistributed but socialism was not implemented. The Colony of Queensland in Australia had a socialist party elected for a week in 1899 but it was only for a week. In 1917 Russia became a communist state after the forced abdication of Tsar Nicholas II. Russia became a socialist state in 1924 under Joseph Stalin. Soon China became a socialist state in 1949 under Mao Zedong who came up with Maoism. Cuba followed suit and became a socialist state in 1959 under Fidel Castro. Socialism was viewed negatively by the US government following WWII and the Truman Doctrine was born. The Doctrine's purpose was to contain Soviet geopolitical expansion. This is why America went to war with North Korea in 1950 and later went to war with the Viet Cong in 1955, a socialist rebel group.
